Something really good is coming again – let us announce the next pearl of our anniversary year program!
This time Korvat auki joins forces with both the Harp Class and Music Technology Department of Sibelius Academy. By the end of our collaboration project we are looking for pieces for harp(s) and electronics. Yes, you read right, this time our concept is clearly specified. The call for scores is open for all Korvat members as well as the composition students from Music Technology Department. The only requirement is that each applicant should be fluent in working with electronics. The composer is responsible for creating and fixing the electronics used in the submitted piece.
For MuTe students: We are also looking for people interested in working with the concert PA and production to collaborate with composers and performers. The project includes setting up PA, equipment, mixing and ensuring electronics reliability during the event. Alejandro Olarte from Music Technology Department will be the supervisor in this project. Participants earn 3 credits.
The schedule of the project is as follows:
1) April 2017: Harp Seminar on 10th April at 11-12:30, harp class 6112, Music House
Korvat auki, harp class teacher in charge Päivi Severeide and orchestration teacher Vladimir Agopov (experienced harp composer) will organize a seminar for discussing harp playing techniques and the instrument’s possibilities. During the seminar it is possible to try oneself the instrument. The discussion will also handle the electronics that can be used in the coming concert. Attending the event is highly recommended. Deadline for signing up to this event is Tuesday 4th of April.
2) September 2017: Call for Scores Deadline
The call for scores will be closed on the first day of the month. The submitted pieces don’t have to be finalized yet: later in the autumn we will organize a workshop for practicing, working on and commenting. However already at this stage the composer should present scores, sound files and patches.
3) October 2017: Results
Päivi Severeide, Alejandro Olarte and a Korvat auki representative will choose the pieces performed in the concert. The first workshop includes a more extensive part about electronics from a technical point of view (spatialisation, amplification techniques etc.).
4) December 2017: Deadline for the Finalized Pieces
In December – after workshop – the chosen pieces have to be finalized and forwarded. Harp students begin to practice.
5) February 2018: Concert
The venue and time will be announced later. Before the concert we will organize practice sessions in the studios of Sibelius Academy. 1-2 students from Music Technology Department will join the project; they will take care of the PA at the concert.
In case you got interested, mark these milestones to your calendar. Further info on dates will follow along the journey. We will also gladly answer any questions. Worth to mention, the Harp Class is especially grateful for pieces that can possibly be performed also without electronics.
On behalf of all collaborative partners,
Vice Chairman, Korvat auki
