Call for scores
NYKY Ensemble, a contemporary music group led by Professor Tuija Hakkila at the Sibelius Academy, is a forum for contemporary music projects and provides students with insight into contemporary music trends.
In October, Korvat auki will organise a concert at the Music Centre in Helsinki, together with the NYKY Ensemble. Rehearsals will be led by a teacher with contemporary music expertise assigned by the NYKY Ensemble. We are looking for pieces written by members of the Korvat auki association for this project.
Please note that membership payment must be made by the deadline. Composers are allowed to send multiple pieces, and the compositions should not exceed 12 minutes in length.
However, keep in mind that pieces selected for the program should average 7 to 8 minutes, meaning that longer pieces have a slightly lower chance of being performed. The pieces can also be shorter than 7 minutes.
As the musicians for the project are mainly gathered from the students at Sibelius Academy, some instruments, such as the oboe and the harp, may be challenging to find. However, this is not a restriction.
The pieces should be written for solo instruments up to a maximum of a quintet (1-5 musicians). The compositions may also include two-channel electronics and even video if desired.
Please note that program variation is sought after.
Please send your pieces to info[at]korvatauki.net by 23:59 on July 31, 2023. We will inform you of the selected compositions by August 20th at the latest.
