Tiia Ruohola is a Finnish musician, composer and songwriter working between jazz and contemporary classical music. Her work explores the relationship between jazz harmony and contemporary compositional thinking, with an emphasis on fluid genre boundaries and musical expression. She has studied composition as part of her professional music studies at Tampere Conservatory and is currently studying music education at the Sibelius Academy, where she also continues her composition studies. Her approach to composition is informed by a background in vocal music and songwriting, which shapes her sensitivity to musical phrasing and expression. In her work, compositional thinking often grows from a close attention to sound, texture and performative qualities, alongside harmonic development. While her earlier work has focused on performed and sung music, her current interest is increasingly directed toward contemporary classical composition, alongside her ongoing engagement with jazz-influenced musical language.
